A friend of mine got his SGH i780 upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional at the local Samsung service center.

Since Samsung have yet to post the Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade on their website, why not try contacting your local Samsung service center & request for the upgrade.
